Factors to Consider

Brand of PDA

The two top brands for PDA are Palm and HP.  HP is the more business oriented and more expensive and Palm is the more consumer friendly PDA and the cheaper option.  For Smartphones the top brands are Palm and HP but also include Motorola, Blackberry and now Apple.

Cost/Value of PDA

When buying a PDA you should decide exactly which features you really need because you will pay for almost all of the added features.  You can get a high quality basic PDA for under $100 and you can also spend over $500 for the latest Smartphone.  Adding wireless functionality to your PDA is nice to have but it will add several hundred dollars to the cost.  Getting a bigger high resolution screen will also drive up the price.

Design

Like all consumer electronic devices the PDA has become a major fashion statement.  There are business oriented designs like the HP iPAQ and then there is the iPhone which is more like a work of art.  The Palm devices are somewhere in between.  Pick the design that most appeals to you and don’t worry about what anyone else has to say about it.

Performance

All of the top PDAs can mange To Do lists and Calendars but they vary in how well they can handle productivity software like Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.  If you are going to be using your PDA for productivity applications then you want to pay extra for a PDA that has a fast processor and plenty of RAM.
