Noise Cancelling/Noise Reducing Headphones Headphones designed to block out or cancel sounds around the listener.
In Ear Headphones/Ear Buds Headphones that do not have a frame to hold them in place, but rather are placed snuggly into the ear.
USB Headphones Headphones that plug into a USB port of a computer or audio device, instead of a headphone jack.
Surround Sound Headphones Headphones that create front and rear sound fields, in addition to the standard left and right. Ideal for use while watching movies or listening to SACD or DVD-A content.
Waterproof Headphones Headphones that are resistant to damage by water.
Over Ear Headphones Over ear headphones, also called closed or circum-aural headphones, completely enclose your ears. They tend to provide an immersed listening experience and to block out outside noise. If you need to be able to hear a baby or a phone ring, these may not be ideal.
Open Air Headphones These headphones are smaller and lighter than over ear headphones. They sit on top of the ears, but do not enclose them. They allow more outside sounds to be heard.
