Air conditioners often come with additional features. Here is a list of several common features, which will help you understand your options and may influence your purchase. 1. Energy Star
Energy Star is the appliance standard that promotes energy efficiency. When you buy and Energy Star certified air conditioner, not only will you be reducing pollution and helping the planet, but you'll be reducing your energy bill as well.
2. Air Conditioners with Heater
Some users want or need a heater in the same unit as their air conditioner. One example would be if the user was using the hole of an in-wall heater to place the air conditioner. An air conditioner with a heater would enable the unit to do double-duty.
3. Remote Control
Remote control devices are commonly packaged with room air conditioners. Some times you want a remote control on your air conditioner, and some times you need one. You want one when you are sitting or resting and want to get the adjustment just right. You'll need a remote control if the optimal location for your window or in-wall unit is located out of your reach. In that case, the only practical air conditioner is one with a remote control.
4. Timer / Auto Shut-Off
Time and auto shut-off are two great features. Many folks like to go to sleep with the air conditioner blowing on a warm night, but hate waking up in the cool morning with the air still blowing. With auto shut-off you'll never have to experience that again. With the timer, you can set the air conditioner to go on two hours before you come home from work to cool your house. You benefit from walking into a cool house without having had to pay to run the AC all day long.
